We had a very scenic drive coming over here yesterday from Las Vegas. We came off the desert floor in Nevada to the canyons of the Virgin River. That river flows into an arm of Lake Mead and is also a tributary of the Colorado River. This whole rugged area encompasses what is known as the Colorado Plateau. The plateau includes the Four Corners of Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. Within this region are canyons, mesas, winding rivers, and mountain ranges. This area includes Bryce and Zion National Parks in Utah as well as Arizona's North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I will slip in here another picture of what we saw yesterday. It is a view of the river itself, at this point it is a rushing mountain stream.
We are now parked in Hurricane, Utah. From where I am sitting and writing this posting I can see snow-covered mountains off in the distance. The town is named for the Hurricane Fault, a jagged escarpment which rises 7,000 feet above the town. Our plan today is to visit Zion park, which is 30 miles from here.
