West of the Pecos Museum- November 4
I just could not leave the subject of this museum yet until I showed a couple more pictures taken there. One is the copy of a bank notice posted in the late 1800s. Apparently the bankers wanted the bodies of their robbers more dead than alive because usually there were no witnesses willing to testify that they did the deed. Which brings us to the legendary Judge Roy Bean, the West's most colorful justice of the peace who ruled America's last frontier in the final decades of the 19th century. Much has been written about this colorful lawman and his unconventional code of justice. He made his judicial decisions in a combination saloon/billiard hall which he called the "Jersey Lilly". And the last picture is not an old electric chair. I discovered that this came from a beauty salon of the 1920s! It is called a "Permanent Wave Machine". Maybe I should consider this as not so horrifying compared to the harsh chemicals which are now used to make curls.
